Pop-up Makeover

Making some minor repairs and painting the inside of the camper.

Blog Name Change

I got a personalized license plate for the pop-up and decided to change the name of the blog.

I got a G rated plate frame for family campouts.

Batten down the hatches!

With Hurricane Dorian getting closer I started making preparations.

I took down the canopy and retied the tie downs.

I also put the camper stabilizers down.

 And took some pre-storm pictures.
Waiting on my personalized license plate coming soon:-)

Brakes Work :-)

When we bought the Ford F150 it came with a Tow Package but not a Trailer Break Controller. So, I bought a controller(pictured below under the Trailer Backup knob) off eBay and an OBD2 Adapter(also pictured below) which allows me to connect my computer to the truck's computer.
See the source image
After installing the Brake Controller I had to activate it using the FORScan program
on my computer. There are other changes I can make to the truck using FORScan.
Above is the Breakaway Switch that was not previously installed on the trailer.
In the event the camper somehow becomes loose from the truck, the cable will pull a
pin out and the trailer brakes will engage. I mounted it and tested it and it works.

Out with the old, in with the new

On a campout to Kelly Park over the July 4th weekend, the a/c tripped a
breaker in the power converter. There was also a burning smell in the air.
After closer inspection, I saw what is pictured above.
This new converter will also charge the 12v battery on the camper.
I have two extra 12v lines available. I can use one for the ground effect lights.
Maybe use the other for a car stereo with Bluetooth.

Table repaired!

The original table for the camper was damaged on our first campout.
We salvaged the hardware and made a new tabletop.

Our new Tow Vehicle!

We used our 2003 Isuzu Rodeo V6 as a tow vehicle for the pop-up.
It lacked the power to run the A/C and tow. It had a bad catalytic
converter and the anti-lock brakes didn't work. So...

We invested in a 2016 F-150 XL 4X2 Supercab

It came with a Tow Package.

It has a 2.7L V6 Ecoboost with Twin Turbo
It has the power of a V8 plus it's fast!

It a back-up camera and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. While backing
the camper you use the knob in the bottom left of this picture to tell
the truck which way you want the camper to go and it steers for you.

Plenty of interior room.

Light Emitting Diodes

I bought a Deep Cycle battery for the Pop-up to power
the breaks and interior lights if we ever boondock.

Also got a drill socket for the scissor jacks.

My son had LEDs for his car that he didn't want so...

A couple mishaps

We used the dining area as a bed.
Someone sat down too hard on the table.

I think I had the stove too high.

We had a great campout. The weather was perfect and
we got to see a variety of wildlife.
Already looking forward to our next campout.
